First you remove the transmission, then after you have removed the transmission you will find a tiny little box that says "Accessories" . Open that box and place the backlight into it and the back light will come on in the back of your jeep.

wire it to the wire that goes to your head light switch under the dash .be sure you use a fuse in between these 2 connections. References : brains ha ha
