Anybody who’s either in the MLM (Multi Level Marketing) or Network Marketing business or is considering one knows that lead generation is the key to success. MLM has been around a long time and “back in the day” lead generation as almost exclusively a matter of defining your social network: your friends, family, and co-workers. These are free network marketing leads, but suppose you don’t have many contacts?
The Internet has opened up some new possibilities. First, there are companies all over the Internet that sell lead lists. While such paid lists are not always the best MLM leads, they are readily available. If you look into them you’ll find a few interesting things.
For one, they can be costly, so if you thought paid MLM leads would equal cheap MLM leads, you were wrong. Second, most of the leads you buy are “recycled” in that they have been previously sold to other home based business owners. Many paid leads you’ll talk to have been contacted before.
There’s another potential source made available by the onset of the Internet, and that is Social Media. You’ve surely heard of them and you know they are gaining in popularity. Many businesses are already involved. Will they work for MLM leads?
The answer is yes, if you know how to use them. If you already have some familiarity, you’ll know Social Media sites are characterized by communities of shared interest, exchanging information that is often personal. If the personal aspect does not appeal to you, or if you want a more targeted community, look into LinkedIn.
LinkedIn is strictly business, so you’re more likely to find other MLM owners or people who’d like to learn more about MLM on LinkedIn than you would on Facebook.
On LinkedIn you’ll start by building a profile which will include not only your MLM efforts, but all you past and present business experience. You can establish contact with people you already know but may have lost track of, and over time you can ask for introductions to other members.
