If you read the “Day 22″ post for my “26 Weeks to Freedom” accountability project, you know that my goal for today was to begin my “organizing” project by devoting three hours to doing that. I am happy to report that I not only did three hours of it—I actually did four!
And here’s the irony: what I thought was going to be a somewhat tedious and boring review of information I had acquired probably a year ago turned out to be an uplifting, motivating, idea-stimulating trip through the mind of Stephen Pierce, who is really responsible for my becoming interested in Internet Marketing in the first place, ever since I saw him speak at a seminar in November of 2008.
I didn’t really have any particular sequence in which I was going to start plowing through all my acquired information (some of which is on paper and the rest in my computer). I actually just picked up the first pile of paper at random, but as it turned out, it couldn’t have been a better place to begin. This pile happened to be the transcripts (which I had long ago printed out from one of Stephen’s websites) of his teleseminar training modules on how to have the right mindset for success.
As I went through these long transcripts and condensed them into just a few pages of notes for my own future reference (which, by the way, I will be placing in a notebook where I can easily find and read them:-), I was struck by the fact that I am getting more benefit from them now than I did when I first printed them out (and heard the teleseminars). Perhaps that’s because, in the interim, I have made some of the mistakes Stephen warned about (like continuing to buy products and gather information—which gives me a temporary sense of accomplishment—without having any kind of overall business strategy for what exactly I am going to do with them!)
Among the many valuable nuggets of advice that Stephen shares in these “mindset” teleseminars (and today I only made it through the first part of them) is the importance of not censoring your creative mind when you are thinking about new business ideas. For example, say you already have a particular product or service that is selling well. Unleash your creative imagination and you’ll come up with lots of ideas on how to take that same product or service and customize it for different segments of the market, create “spinoff” products, have it translated and marketed in other countries, etc., etc. Don’t worry if the “stream of consciousness” ideas you come up with are practical or not; that part comes later. The important thing is to have a large pool of uncensored ideas as a starting point, and then, after you begin to see how they relate to each other, you can “distill” them down into new products that are practical (and that you probably never thought of before).
