In 1966, the American government signed into law the Medicare Health Insurance act. This act provides for health insurance coverage for anyone over the age of 65. It also covers those people who are disabled, whether through injury or illness.
While Medicare is a good foundation however there are gaps in their coverage. There is an opportunity to buy private health insurance to cover those gaps. Aptly those policies are known as Medigap.
Remember health insurance coverage is run by the individual states and can vary so check and see if there is any help you can get with health insurance.
