Entry level dj gear should be just that available to the entry level DJ. As spinning records gets more popular, prices are moving out of the comfort range of those just getting into the scene. You can, however, still get in by purchasing used DJ equipment instead of new.
Used DJ equipment gives you the opportunity to start out without going broke. Many DJs sell their old gear as they progress. You can find them online at sites such as eBay or Craigslist or even in your local music store or pawn shop.
A word to the wise though. While mixers, speakers, and other gear might be a found for a bargain almost anywhere, be sure to use some selective judgment when looking at turntables. Don’t buy a used turntable unless you can try it out first. You need to know it’s balanced and that it is in good working order. A bad motor or a warped plate will pretty much wreck your great bargain as you end up looking for another one weeks later.
